Nokia DT-903 Smart Wireless Charging Plate Review

The process of charging a smartphone wirelessly is a cool idea, something that’s not really new when you think about it, but it’s something that continues to pick up steam. Instead of connecting your typical charging cable to a smartphone, wireless chargers offer that convenience of simply placing a device on a pad – where it then proceeds to juice the phone. Interestingly, Nokia has something pretty wicked with its latest offering in the Nokia DT-903 Smart Wireless Charging Plate.

First and foremost, we have to point out the cute and cuddly design it’s sporting, which only accommodates a single smartphone. Its pill shape cutout is undoubtedly different and refreshing, but Nokia is able to make it more compelling than other wireless charging systems because of the three bright colors it’s available in, as well as the iridescent glow around the base when it’s charging a smartphone.

In testing it out, we used both a Nokia Lumia 830 and 930, which both offer built-in wireless charging. To be fair, though, the DT-903 is compatible to work with any device that supports the Qi wireless charging standard. However, you’re only able to relish on its true potential if you use a Windows _phone_ running the Lumia Denim (Windows _phone_ 8.1 Update 1) software release. With the Lumia 830, specifically, the DT-903 can be paired with the phone via NFC, so that the charging plate can “ breathe” in a pattern to remind us to charge the phone, and notifications for various things.

The glowing border of the DT-903 is without a doubt the most profound thing that’s present here, as the iridescent glow helps to really make it stand out over other wireless charging systems. It’s cool and mesmerizing, but when you’re trying to sleep and in a dark room, it can be distracting. Thankfully, though, it can manually be turned off by pressing on the button on the underside of the charging plate. Everything seems to be going well for the Nokia DT-903, except that it doesn’t come included with a charging adapter. Instead, you’ll need to plug it into a USB port on a device – or if you have a spare USB wall charger, you can use that as well.

Stickered with a $59.00 price tag, we feel that it’s fitting considering the cool design and smart functions of it. Honestly, it’s something that Nokia Lumia smartphone owners who have wireless charging built-in will want to pick up!
